Embakasi Village Craft Market
The normal practice when shopping at a crafts market is to select your purchases from the choices on display. At Embakasi Village Craft Market, you have the choice of specifying your own design, or select from theirs, and have the artwork and polishing done as you watch, unless you prefer to buy some of the ready-made pieces. The experience of seeing your design come to life is amazing, and the craftsmen’s skillfulness quite impressive. Dealing with the craftsmen is also very convenient. In other markets, when you don’t see the designs you are looking for, sometimes you have to return another day, whereas at Embakasi Village Craft Market, you can show them a sample of the design you are looking for and get it made on the spot.
Apparently many traders in other craft markets buy their stocks wholesale from this market. The prices therefore tend to be lower than other places. You will find wood carvings, Kisii soapstone carvings, Kamba gourds and calabashes, African wardrobe accessories, and all the other African crafts sold in the other markets.
Getting there
This craft market is situated off Mombasa Road, about 200m after City Cabanas as you head towards JKIA. Turn left and go for another 200 meters to the Market. If using public means to get there, you’ll need to board matatu number 110 for Kitengela, or bus number 33 for Nyayo Embakasi or Utawala, then alight at City Cabanas.
Useful contact: Kisii Soapstone craftsman Nyasimi – 0711350151.
Hello,
I’d like to get in contact with a product trader who offers original kenyan crafts. I want to offer these products on my eCommerce website. The trader must be able to offer great photos of their products. So, if you meet this criteria, please contact me.
Please, don’t overcost your goods! I am a Kenyan and I’ll know if you’re overpricing me.
